Ok, all right, all right! I’m finally listening to Wavves’ King of the Beach, and seriously, I’m with PitchforkReviewsReviews on this one. I do not hear Green Day or MxPx or Blink-182. All I hear is a less scuzzy copy of Beulah. Or, maybe if Phantom Planet or Calvin Krime were E6 bands? I keep coming back, oddly, to early Mates of State and Quasi, too (ETA: I totally wrote that before I heard “Convertable Ballon”!). Which I’m not sure will make sense to anyone else. Obviously, the lesson may be, after reading a jillion opinions on the matter: whatever you were listening to when you were in the place Nathan Williams is now — that is what you hear. And that’s what’s most worth noting: nothing new to see here (I mean, check all the P’fork reviews I linked to!), move along, or whatever. And stuff.

So: I don’t hate this, but I sure would have loved it more in 1999/2000.
