So we missed the “OMG JUST WHO ARE THE GOLDEN FILTER OMG!” folderol earlier this year, and so when the press release arrived stating that they were headlining Friction @ Le Poisson Rouge later this month, I got a little livid.

“Oh, so this is the next gimmick,” I thought glumly. “A hidden identity, a perfectly styled frontwoman, a NYC/London pedigree, a slightly-too-beautiful Tumblr (even if it does reveal they are fans of Scott Walker, David Lynch, Lesile Caron and … Marshall Berman — I feel PANDERED TO!!) and perfect little tracks that got the attention of just the right bloggers (The absolute worst of whom simply must ponce about claiming NYEAH NYEAH THEY KNOW THE ANSWER!! Sad. Annoying.)  So they’re headlining their first U.S. show with just a handful of cherry-picked gigs under their belts? Is this what we’ve come to?”

And yet, their rough-around-the-edges Goldfrappian looks and sounds appeal.  So maybe it will be just the thing to go find out just who they are at Friction later this month. If I haven’t choked on my own cynicism by that point.
