quoteWhile Muzak has for decades created what it calls “audio architecture” for commercial environments, it is just in the last five years that a handful of music consultants, mostly in New York and London, have begun to specialize in creating custom domestic soundtracks. Selling music to people who don’t really like music.  I suppose that one could make the argument that people who can afford to have services to select music to enhance their living environments (gag) might be too busy to go select music for themselves.  Smell the sarcasm.  It’s sad that we of a certain age are such a strong marketing demographic that we’re being told that the homes we enjoy alone (or with guests) have to be made cooler through the right music.  This goes beyond interiors to a place that gets kind of crazy.  Then again, it may say something about me that I used to leave WNYC on for my cat.
