A notebook of stray thoughts from your pals Cindy Hotpoint & Pinkie Von Bloom. Because we like more than just music, you know. You can reach us at elegantfaker AT gmail DOT com. We <3 you!

(To our Tumblr followers: we read you on the feed side b/c Cindy really loathes using the Tumblr interface for reading posts.)

File this under “Things in the (Local) ‘Hood that We Missed,” which was just as well because I know I’ve been dog-tired for the past couple of days. But a cabaret performance — presumably en français — from Célia Faussart (as Blue Nefertiti) three avenue blocks from casa Rich Girls? If I’d known, I could’ve gotten my fat ass down to Stuyvesant.
I’m not sure why, exactly, I know about Les Nubians, except that sometime during the years I spent in the dance music ghetto a decade or so ago, I stumbled across Princesses Nubiennes. It was a comfortable tour through “acid jazz,” “trip-hop,” and Sade-land quiet storm Afropop Worldwide-esque R&B. It’s still a good record, MC Solaar collaboration notwithstanding. (I guess it works…in context.) And it’s always nice to hear “Dans le peau d’une princess nubienne” at the end of Mercedes Benzedrina’s mixtapes.
