Deep Dish featuring EBTG - Future of the Future (via Tracey Thorne via Pinkie’s iPod)
I was listening to Tracey Thorne’s Out of the Woods this morning on my walk to work. True to form, I wasn’t listening to the whole album, but rather “Grand Canyon” and “Raise the Roof” on repeat. Having not read the liner notes, I’m not sure if my gut reaction to “Grand Canyon” (“I smell Deep Dish”) is spot on, but it makes sense, given the rest of Deep Dish’s ouevre and their extensive circa-2000 collaborations with EBTG’s Ben Watt. “Future of the Future (Stay Gold),” from Junk Science (1998) is still a really great song, as is “Stranded” (featuring Richard Morel, AKA Pink Noise, a repeat offender in Bob Mould collaborations, including the BLOWOFF parties).
Bonus: Watching Ali and Sharam play backgammon is about as uninteresting as watching them play records.
Secret: I used to have a dirty, nasty crush on Ali. Then he grew up and started to look like Blondie’s Chris Stein, and not in a good way.
