With hints of 12-tone rows and Bergian richness, the music shows signs of Mr. Shore’s craft in almost every measure. But it never adds up. It’s as if Mr. Shore had abandoned his cinematic imagination to write a dutifully contemporary opera.

Wow, that’s a burn — the conclusion of three grafs slamming the score hardcore.
An interesting hodgepodge of friends (an early music nerd/film fanatic, an experimental music geek/film buff and a pragmatic one with no affiliations) are seeing The Fly in LA this week; I eagerly await their report.
