As you may already know, today is the 25th anniversary of Purple Rain. While Purple Rain is indeed a fantastic rock picture with the awesomest of awesome soundtracks, I have a huge weak spot for Under the Cherry Moon. Under the Cherry Moon was the follow-up film from 1986 starring Prince, Jerome Benton (Terry Lewis’ brother / Morris Day and the Time), the unearthly Francesca Annis and a young ingenue called Kristin Scott Thomas. The soundtrack was Parade. Above is the “Don’t call me baby!” scene, which features some quality scenery chomping. Chew it bitch, chew it.
If you’ve ever heard someone screech “Your future, framed in gold!” at Lit Lounge…oh wait, pretty much anywhere…that was probably me. It’s a shame the scene that line came from isn’t available on Youtube, as it captures the essential Prince and Jerome bromance.
