HOW MUCH DOES SHANNON WRIGHT SHRED. CAUSE SHE DOES. AND WE HAVE THE SAME GUITAR.
She is the best. She is also a piano shredder.
Take this song, strip the rhythm section away, keep the volume and intensity… that’s what it was like seeing her a year or two ago in Louisville.
A friends wife once remarked “In a perfect world, she’d be huge; she’d be a divine influence on young women. In a perfect world, young women would look at Shannon Wright and say ‘wow, okay so you don’t need to use the most base-level sex appeal to get people to pay attention to you.’ You don’t have to be ‘cute.’”
Shannon is the way she is because she’s on the other end of the electricity powering her amp. She is moving with the energy and is wrestling with the same ghosts as all of us through that energy. It’s the most raw form of performance. There is no shock, there is no emotional bleeding, there’s nothing rote or phoned in. This is someone “working it out” on stage and coming to terms with her own world in the end. This is something that cannot be taught… this is something from within.
In a perfect world, I’d get to witness this everytime I go see a band, but I don’t. I only see with a handful at best. I don’t want to know a world that doesn’t have Shannon Wright in it.she tore it up at schubas a few years ago. i actually grabbed the set list and i don’t do that often.
Shannon Wright is singularly amazing indeed. The lightup keyboard she had at SXSW in 2002 was awesome, even if it gave the stagehands at the Scottish Rite Theater fits.
