Josh Ritter - Kathleen
All the other girls here are stars, you are the northern lights
In one of those strange moments of odd, sad irony yesterday, after I was thinking I would email my friend Kathleen in Austin and wish her a very happy Jarvis Cocker’s birthday day, I found out (via Facebook, meh) that she passed away over the weekend. In addition to being an utterly fantastic, lovable person, she also happened to be the biggest Pulp superfan I’d ever known.
I listened to lots of Pulp in her memory yesterday, but I remembered this morning, randomly, that I put this Josh Ritter song on a mix CD for her once a million years ago. She was a bit of a gruff romantic, and I’d always hoped some nice boy would fall head-over-heels for her and sweep her away. Just like in this song.
Miss you so so much already, KGK. Godspeed, and hope wherever you are, you’ve got Different Class on repeat. xoxo
