“Madonna [is] trying to get fashion companies to give Jesus work so he [can] get a green card”

You can’t just immediately get a Green Card! He will be getting an H1B Visa like the 100’s & 100’s of other foreign fashion models in this city … For models it’s really not that big an issue, it’s usually pretty straightforward.

Jesus Luz Doesn’t Need Madonna’s Help Anymore — The Cut: New York Magazine’s Fashion Blog

Thank you, commenter, for demystifying this complete crock of hooey about Marc Jacobs personally writing a letter in support of a “work permit” for Madonna’s toyboy of the week.  Seriously, I mean it.  I think whoever reported on this first actually means that Marc called LVMH legal and had them whip up an H-1 petition (since the cap hasn’t hit yet) and sent it on over to USCIS, assuming that there’s already a labor cert on file with the DOL.  Alternately, if this H-1 business doesn’t work out and Jesus has a degree, he can get a J-1 as a fashion model.  I still can’t believe that modelling is classed as a skilled business occupation.

Yay.  Non-immigrant immigration fu.  Demystified.  God, I’m a nerd.  I’d point out that Jezebel made the hilarious error of using the old INS acronym, but that’s just mean.  There hasn’t been an INS since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2001.

<3 pvb, who has had it up to here (wherever that is) with public diplomacy and civil service
