Merry Shitmas | Regretsy →
Hideous holiday music to download and share from Helen Killer.
Related: I heard my first “Feliz Navidad” of the season nearly a week before Thanksgiving this year. I generally find this kind of thing to be a very bad omen indeed.

Suggestions from one of Chicago’s top sommeliers — a former professional percussionist.
Dear NPR Music,
I’m going to pretend like this didn’t happen. Let’s never speak of it again.

last night i went to a party for “The World’s Perfect Zine,” which is a zine that was just put out by a guy called “David Shapiro,” but who is actually named something else. a zine is like a self-made magazine. the party was at a downtown record store called Other Music, and it was sponsored by Tumblr, because David Shapiro writes a well-known Tumblr called “pitchfork...

… last year I didn’t know John Roderick from a hole in the ground. (Now he’s on a podcast with Merlin Mann, so ofc. I know him as the persnickety guy in that duo of persnickety guys.)

Our darling Hot Rod, on the mark, as ever.

Places Everyone! : Conde Nast Traveler →
Sometimes a movie’s setting plays as memorable a role as its stars. Director Peter Bogdanovich screens some of his favorite films in which the location (almost) steals the show.
I am not sure how this happened, but I have been laboring under the delusion for the past five years or so that Peter Bogdanovich passed away suddenly. I’m very happy to be disabused of this notion.

What a great trailer for the upcoming season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. This is the only reality show I still follow. I don’t think I need to explain why.
The PRODUCTION VALUES! Damn, girl!
I literally just screamed with joy. LITERALLY.

And Then There Were Three: Universal Will Buy EMI →
nprmusic:
The home of The Beatles is being remodeled — drastically.
EMI, until now one of the four remaining major labels, is being broken up and sold off by the megabank Citigroup. After an auction that took almost nine months, French media company Vivendi, which owns Universal Music Group, will buy EMI’s recorded music division and Sony Corp. will pick up the publishing arm.

I’ve decided that Bradford Cox and Drake need to have a cage match, preferably one in which they are both permanently destroyed, immediately.
[eta: links in for semper idem … ]
[ps btw, drake’s blathering bums me out extra hardcore, because you know, he had so much potential once, sort of. but i guess that should have been a warning sign, actually.]

If there’s one skill I wish I had, it’s the ability to quote verse in a perfect, off-the-cuff way in conversations. My friend Vonelle can do it; I think it’s a bit of a generational thing — I’m reading (among other things) Brian Aldiss’ The Eighty Minute Hour, and the characters, in addition to bursting into song occasionally (literally, you know, a space...
